Hand written letters

One of this year's resolutions is to write a letter ("write" in the old fashion way) to a friend. I used to write hundreds of letters a year when I was younger. To Japan, to France, to penpals in the States...and I really miss it. Not only the fact that its so much more personal but also the slowness of the whole thing. Having to wait to see if the letter's arrived...
Call me romantic but it makes it so much worth it than today's emails.
Anybody who would want to exchange a written letter or two with me?
Let me know! It would be super fun to have another penpal!

Uno de los propósitos de este año es mandar una carta escrita (ya sabéis, del modo tradicional) a un amig@. Cuando era más joven solía escribir cientos de cartas al año: a Japon, a Francia, a Estados Unidos y la verdad es que lo echo de menos. No sólo porque es mucho más personal, sino porque me encanta la lentitud del proceso, que no haya la inmediatez del email y que la espera haga que valga mucho más la pena recibir noticias de esa persona.... Así que alguien se anima? A alguien le haría ilusión recibir una carta (o dos)? Dadme un toque, me encantaría tener un confidente escrito!

Although the nude trend was something huge last year, I plan on keep wearing my nude clothes, like the blouse above (specially because it still fits me, with my belly and all).

I just love how with some pearls and some basic pieces (like simple black pants or camel accessories) you have a flawless outfit.
PS: and for all of you pregnant ladies out there, check out the H&M basic collection. The Tshirts, bodies and long cotton dresses are fabulous to wear now underneath a sweater or later on when Spring comes, underneath a blouse.

Aunque la tendencia de los colores nude fue algo grande el año pasado, la verdad es que planeo seguir con ella por ejemplo con la blusa que os enseño un poco más arriba (sobretodo porque la tripa creciendo, aún me cabe). Simplemente me encanta que con unas perlas, piezas básicas (como unos pantalones negros sencillos o unos accesorios como los que os mencionaba en camel) tenéis un conjunto perfecto.
PD: y para todas las que estéis embarazadas, echad un vistazo a la colección de básicos de H&M. LAs camisetas largas, los bodies y los vestidos sencillos de algodón van genial para poner debajo de un jersey grueso ahora con frío o debajo de una blusa más finita a la que se acerque la primavera.

I love these polyvore outfits because they give so much to think about.

After watching this preview for the documentary "Eames: the architect and the painter" the only thing I regret is not having more time during the day to develop all my passions, my hobbies and all the "I'd-love-to-try-this" projects that keep cornered in my mind expecting the right time to come out. Isnt fascinating when you see somebody who can actually develop their full potential in terms of creativity?
PS: love the "It all began with a chair" phrase.

Después de ver el anuncio del documental "Eames: the architect and the painter" la única cosa que lamento es no tener más tiempo durante el día para dar rienda suelta a todas mis pasiones, mis hobbies y mis "tengo-probar-esto" proyectos que se quedan siempre en un rincón de mi mente por falta de tiempo o energía. No es fascinante cuando vemos a alguien que desarrolla su completo potencial creativo y construye su vida alrededor?

You might remember a these pics from Vogue Korea I posted a while ago.
While going through my fashion scrapbook (yes, no magazine is safe with me and my scissors) I found out the last year's collection from Carolina Herrera and it definitely had a Korean inspiration to it, dont you think? I find it fascinating when Im able to discover what went through a designer's mind to create a whole collection.

No sé si os acordaréis de un post con fotos de Vogue Korea que colgué hace poco. Pues echando la vista atrás a mi libreta de notas de moda (y es que ninguna revista está a salvo en mi casa a la que cojo las tijeras) he encontrado que la colección del año pasado de Carolina Herrera estaba definitivamente inspirada en la moda y las texturas de los trajes koreanos, no os parece? Me parece fascinante descubrir el origen de las colecciones y ver qué estaba pensando un determinado diseñador para encontrar la inspiración.

And so here's my final look for last Sunday, completing the Pink Carpet accessories with a pair of Uterque earrings ( that I loved since they reminded me of the past Byzance Chanel collection) and a couple of bracelets from Aristocrazy. And its weird, because for the last months Ive been digging the gold accessories when I never liked them before...must be the hormones I guess?:)

Take a look how subtle and well done is this drawing. Mainly just using different tones of the brown/camel palette you have the whole silhouette, the hair and the body!
Echad un vistazo a lo sutil y fantástico de la ilustración. Usando mayormente distintos tonos de camel y marrón se obtiene la silueta, el pelo y el cuerpo. Me parece precioso!

Meet our new shoe cabinet for the entrance hall of our (tiny but super cute) apartment. Beautiful and simple isnt it?
Well, dont let yourselves be fooled by its simplicity and innocence, my friends. And let me explain you why: 31 steps.
31 long and exhausting (specially if you havent eaten anything yet and its lunch time) steps are what it takes to put the whole thing together.

And Im not even gonna tell you that I skipped one step in the process and I had to improvise a little, so I'll just show off a bit and let you know that when I finished I had 4 spare screws. Who would have thought that I could be more efficient than the IKEA guys?

Este es el nuevo zapatero para la entrada de nuestro (pequeño pero super mono) apartamento. Bonito y simple verdad? Mentiraaaaaa! No os dejéis engañar por su aparente simplicidad y cara de inocente, nooooo!
Y dejadme explicaros por qué.

31 pasos, queridos amigos.
31 largos y agotadores pasos (sobretodo si lo haces a la hora de comer y aún no tienes nada en la tripa) es lo que se requiere para montar tal obra de ingeniería. Y ni siquiera voy a contaros que me he saltado el paso 19 y he tenido que improvisar para a) no tener que desmontarlo todo otra vez y b) caer en la tentación de tirarlo por la ventana. Now that the Golden Globes are gone and the whole bloggosphere has overanalyzed the dresses and the outfits (and the hair! check out Ana's post from yesterday), I wanted to add a small note on all the accessories that completed the looks of the stars.

You know my friend Nat already,
She makes al sorts of accessories and wears them like nobody I know.
We went to dinner a couple of nights ago and she showed up with this camel coat and this beautiful black Massimo Dutti hat that she had customised with feathers and ribbons.
If you are into hats, this MD one fitted like a glove.
Simple and stylish, it made Nat's outfit stand out effortlessly.
Ya conocéis a mi amiga Nat. Crea toda clase de accesorios y los viste como nadie que yo conozca. Fuimos a cenar hace un par de noches y apareció con este abrigo camel y un bonito sombrero negro de Massimo Dutti que había personalizado con plumas y cintas de raso. Si os gustan los sombreros, intentad encontrar este en MD (creo que de rebajas salía a 15 euros) porque la verdad es que quedaba como un guante. Simple y elegante hacía que el look de Nat sobresaliera en todas partes sin ningún tipo de esfuerzo.

Rules for cleaning up your closets

As I mentioned, Mr Octopus and I have been doing some cleaning this past weekend and, let me tell you, a fewer things bring me more mental peace than knowing that our closets are in perfect order and that we have tossed, given, thrown away everything we could.
So here there are a few rules if you are trying to get rid of old stuff.

My personal favorites?
1. If you havent worn it in a year, its time to go.
2. Show. No. Mercy.
3. Wait a minimum of a couple of weeks (after the cleaning) to buy something new (with more space, temptation comes).
4. Ask yourself: will I wear this in a couple of years? or as silly as it sounds, if you like/adore someone elses' style ask yourself "would (for instance) Audrey Hepburn wear this?"
5. Size matters.
6. There are plenty of friends who will be delighted to wear something you toss away, so its always nice to give them happy surprises.
7. While cleaning up, put on some music, have fun and try some new looks on, its a great way to find some new ideas on what to wear.
8. It's a great feeling once you are done, you know exactly what you have, where it is and what can you wear it with.

Como os comenté, el Sr Pulpo y yo hemos estado de limpieza general este fin de semana y hay pocas cosas que me aporten tanta paz mental como saber que no quedan trastos inútiles escondidos en un rincón y que todos los armarios estan ordenados y limpios. Así que si estáis pensando en deshaceros de cosas viejas, aquí tenéis algunos consejilllos que a mi me han sido muy útiles.

Mis favoritos?
1. Si no lo he usado en el último año....fuera!

2. No. Hay. Piedad.

3. Esperad un par de semanas (mínimo) para comprar nada nuevo despues de la limpieza, cuando se tiene mucho espacio de repente, la tentación es grande.

4. Preguntarse "me pondré esto dentro de un par de años"? O, puede parecer tonto, pero si hay alguien a quien especialmente admiréis en cuanto estilo, preguntaros "se pondría esto (por ejemplo) Audrey Hepburn?

5. La talla importa y las rebajas no son la panacea universal: calidad, no cantidad!
6. Hay un montón de amigas que seguro estarán encantadas de echarle el guante a algo de lo que os deshacéis así que encima haréis feliz a alguien.
7. Mientras estáis de limpieza, poneros un poco de música con ritmo, id probando distintas piezas y seguro que encontráis looks nuevos en los que no habíais caído.
8. Pensar que una vez hayáis terminado, sabréis exactamente qué tenéis, dónde está y con qué podéis combinarlo.

(in my defence, we took 6 long distance flights within a month). And here there are a couple of reasons why. Its funny but the older I get, the more scared I am to fly.

Since Mr Octopus and I agreed to give eachother presents only for Xmas this year (you might not know this, but in Spain we have the 3 kings celebration which happens to be today) I allowed myself a small auto gift from Romwe. I had always loved the YSL ring and they had only two rings left when I checked it back on December the 30th. So Im just waiting for them to arrive.Beautiful, arent they?

The other day, I was just remembering one of the summers I spent traveling alone .

Now, imagine you've just arrived by yourself into a Montana ranch to experience the "real cowboy life". You wake up the first morning (6:00AM, for once, bless the jetlag) surrounded by people you havent seen in your life (each one sleeping in their own fabric tent which, by the way, I shared with a small mouse the first night since he seemed very interested in my cookies... but thats another story), have some breakfast and prepare your horse. You ride with complete strangers for a couple of hours and the moment you start to relax, mingle and enjoy the view, Hip, the owner of the ranch and leader of the group comes to you and says:

"OK Barcelona, (that was my name so he could remember)
See that tree over that hill? (see pic)
There's supposed to be about 15 to 20 cows around.
You go up there and bring'em here."

BEST. WEEK. OF. MY. LIFE. .

PS: how about we plan to have lots and lots of adventures in 2012????

El otro día me estaba acordando de uno de mis mejores veranos en los que estuve viajando sola.

Imaginaros que acabáis de llegar a un pueblecito perdido de la mano de Dios enmedio de Montana, USA, para vivir la experiencia de cómo se trabaja en un rancho de ganado. Os levantáis el primer día (6:00AM) rodeados de gente que no conocéis ni habéis visto en vuestra vida (cada uno dormía en una tienda de campaña de tela que por cierto yo compartí la primera noche con un ratón chiquitín inmensamente interesado en mis galletas, pero eso es otra historia), desayunáis y preparáis vuestro caballo.
Cabalgáis durante un par de horas enmedio de la llanura americana y cuando ya te estás relajando, empiezas a charlar con la gente y parece que le coges el tranquillo a todo, aparece Hip, el propietario del rancho y líder del grupo y te suelta:

"Vale Barcelona (que era mi nombre a efectos de su memoria de pez),
Ves ese árbol de ahí arriba? (ver foto)
Se supone que hay entre 15 a 20 cabezas de ganado detrás de la colina.
Sube ahí y tráelos."

La. Mejor. Semana. de. Mi. Vida.

PD. qué os parece si de cara a 2012 nos proponemos tener un montón de aventuras????

Since the belly bumb is becoming more and more noticeable, Im thinking of a comfy yet chic outfit for New Years Eve. Something that involves an elastic band in the pants, a tuxedo jacket and some cotton-based top or maybe a soft dress and a cardigan with flats. What are your plans for New Year's Eve?
PS: this year, YSL Red lipstick is a must.

Ya que la barriga empieza a hacer acto de presencia irremediablemente, estoy pensando en un look cómodo y sencillo pero chic de cara a la noche de Fin de Año. Algo así como este, con unos pantalones cómodos (aunque he encontrado unos pitillos monísimos que me hacen volver a sentir que tengo piernas y no jamones de jabugo) un blazer tipo smoking y un top de algodón quizás con alguna lentejuela. O quizás un vestido de algodón con chaquetilla y bailarinas. Qué os parece? Tenéis algun plan para Fin de Año?
PD: este año, lo acabaré con lápiz de labios rojo YSL

One of the good things of staying tuned with American TV shows is that a lot of them (specially but not only The Vampire Diaries and Hart of Dixie) have absolutely fantastic soundtracks.
If you check them out on their on websites you'll find the coolest hit lists.
You know Im a sucker for ballads like this one by Sara Bareilles, but if you're looking for a indie/pop/underground mix....you are most welcome.

Una de las cosas de estar al día sobre las Series de televisión americanas es que la mayoría de ellas (especial pero no únicamente la de Vampire Diaries y Hart of Dixie) tienen unas bandas sonoras fantásticas. Si echáis un vistazo a sus webs encontraréis las listas más geniales y heterogéneas que os podáis imaginar. Ya sabéis que a mi me encantan las baladas tranquilas como ésta de Sara Bareilles pero si os gusta un estilo indie/pop/ underground, me lo vais a agradecer.

I think Im gonna add them in my wishlist as a last minute suggestion.

The only bad thing about this brand is that all the bracelets and complements look better when you wear two or three of them at the same time.
